Karl Gentles Enters Congressional Race (AZ-6)

Nonprofit leader and small business owner Gentles wants to continue making a difference on education & economic development

“The right leader at the right time”

(October 8, 2019) – Nonprofit leader and small business owner Karl Gentles, a Democrat, today announced his decision to run for Congress in Arizona’s 6th District. Gentles has been a committed community leader and advocate for over two decades. Over the years, he has worked collaboratively with individuals, civic groups, and corporations, to increase educational outcomes and economic opportunity for all of our community members, no matter their socioeconomic status.

“Arizona families and children need people who have a track record of get things done for the people of Arizona,” said Gentles. Through my work in the nonprofit community, I have worked with a number of individuals, companies and civic organizations to build better opportunities and outcomes for children and families. We need a new brand of leadership that knows how to create partnerships that make an impact. We need leadership that is in touch and cares about their community.”

As the leader of Back to School Clothing Drive for 11 years, Karl has helped make a difference in the lives of more than 250,000 elementary public school children by supporting their basic needs to help them achieve success in school. As a member of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and later the USAA leadership team, he played a key role in the USAA corporate expansion, one of the largest job creation projects in the past two decades. The project resulted in the creation of 3,000 jobs and the development of than one million plus square foot corporate campus in the northwest section of the district.

“I believe I’m the right leader at the right time and will work hard for this district,” said Gentles. “Democrats want a candidate who can win, will lead with principles, and will do what is right over political ideology. Our district needs a new brand of leadership, someone who has the skills to build coalitions and can work effectively with both sides of the isle without the hyper-partisan, ineffective discourse of our current Washington politicians. That’s my approach and what I bring to the table.”

Later in the campaign, Gentles will do a formal campaign kickoff and formally announce his campaign. The 6th district spans from Norterra/Deer Valley in the northwest to the Fort McDowell Indian Nation in the Northeast and runs south along the Salt River Indian Nation near Tempe and includes Scottsdale and Paradise Valley and other areas.

Gentles is focused on protecting the quality of life of Arizona families and opposing the Washington circus we see today. He said, “There is too much focus in Washington on fighting and not enough focus on results that improve local Arizona schools and expand opportunities for everyday people and those who have or want to start a small business. We need to replace the Washington inaction with some common sense and Arizona problem solving. The bottom line is we need a member of Congress who will tirelessly fight for the people of this district.”
